Eli was fun to watch in Irish Dance today. I love walking home from there, in the dusk, Eli and Nancy running ahead as we walk home. It makes me think I’m in movie or something.
Grif had a solo in his chorus. He has a puffy head of hair. I didn’t get to watch, but the thought of his puffy head singing as everyone watched is pretty funny.
Vikings is one of my favorite shows. Great characters.
I’ve especially liked scenes with Harbard lately. He’s an amazing, intriguing character that embodies the mythology and superstition that were rampant in that time.
My favorite line of his came during the last show, “Possession is the opposite of love”. Can’t stop thinking about how true that is. Harbard loves all the women in the village, who are lonely as their husbands are off raiding. Alyssa, one of these women, gets irate, and that’s when Harbard tells her the quote.
I also watch the entertaining “Girls” on HBO. It’s basically an NC-17 version of “Friends”. All they do is try to possess everything–the city, their lifestyles, eachother. The show portrays a sense of this amazing friendship they share, and these idyllic lives they lead, but I can’t relate. First of all, no one lives like that. Shows like “Girls” and “Friends” celebrate possession. Characters that live like that are never happy in real life. They embrace the opposite of love, as Harbard says.

Pick a book, any book, off your bookshelf or wherever you keep books. Maybe you don’t have books.
I guarantee they are better quality than any of the sketchbooks you can buy. The paper, binding, everything — 100% better than the most expensive moleskins or rhodis or lagenhreufer / whatever that german brand is.
Why? 90% of those copies are never going to be opened, much less read.
Here’s an idea: someone yank the printer ink out of the press halfway through the run, and sell the BLANK, AWESOME books at double the msrp. I guarantee they will sell out and leave the boring printed junk in the dust.
I wish I knew who was in charge of printing all those perfect bound, glorious books. “Hey, Mike– save me a few blanks on your next edition of Cold Mountain:A Journey into the Boringest Place On Earth; name your price” I’d say.
Next time you go to church-open up a hymnal, rifle through the silky, wafer thin sheets covered in cacaphony, and imagine having one with nothing on it. 1000 pages of near indestructible, perfect surfaces just waiting for you to scrawl on.
The size of a pixel is relative to its output device, aka screen resolution.
Some screens are 72 dpi. Some are 300 dpi. So if you specify your font size to be 12px, it should rightly appear legible on the 72 dpi screen, and tiny on the 300 dpi screen.
Instead, use point, or pt. A point is 1/72 of an inch. 12pt will appear legible on any screen, regardless of its dpi.
