Teaching and the creative process

Teaching drives my creativity. I approach creative problems by breaking down the process into methods that can be clearly expressed.

I’m not simply satisfied with making good, useful designs. I want others to share my enjoyment during the process and look forward to seeing how the outcome impacts their growth as designers.

When I build learning materials, I am keenly aware of the nuances that impact retention. If I draw an arrow to point out a key UI element, for example, I carefully consider its placement and visual characteristics. Should the stroke weight be bigger? Is the arrow the right length? How will its color and effects optimize its function?

This kind of thinking has become almost instinctive after many years of immersion in the education space. I strive to create an invisible logic within my work—whether I’m designing a system or building a fully functioning LMS.
