Schemarama, a basic color picker for Figma

Schemerama is the culmination of years I’ve spent searching for a simple, straightforward color picker.

Massimo Vignelli was famous for saying a designer only needs a few typefaces. One or two serifs, san-serifs, maybe a display font—those are good enough for 99% of design ventures.

Likewise, there are really only twelve hues a designer needs to consider; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Plus one intermediary step: red-orange, green-blue, etc.

Everything else is secondary; darken them, you get shades; lighten them, you get tints; desaturate them, you get tones.

I built a working version of what I thought could portray this concept at https://codepen.io/empireoflight/full/eYYgGjL and used it mainly for teaching this concept in my design courses. It worked well for that purpose, but what I really wanted was to get it into Figma’s public plugin directory.
